Let’s talk cheese. I came across these little darlings at College Hill New World tonight. Reasons I’m a fan:
- It’s more fun buying three little cheeses than choosing one normal sized one
- They’re the perfect size for one person, so you don’t have to wait for a party to buy lovely cheese
- You can eat them in one sitting – no wrapping up leftovers
- Eat one and there are still two unopened cheeses to enjoy later one
- They look adorable (is it wrong to think food is adorable?)
There are some lovely looking blues too. Nice work Puhoi Valley. I think it might be almost time for a summer trip up to the cheese factory.

Sadly Fonterra – Ooops, “Puhoi Valley Cheese” (Yeah Right!) gives a damn about the growing landfills. More smaller cheese sales – more plastic wrappers!
Had to think about your post all the time. Where I came from(Germany) we have a cheese counter in every supermarket. Yes we also have pre-packaged cheese, but most people buy loose cheese. That’s probably why I don’t really get used to this concept we have here in NZ. In Germany you could buy as much or little cheese as you like, get it wrapped in waxed paper. Same price. I guess the small cheeses you bought will be more expensive per kg than their big brothers and sisters. So yes I do see your point but wouldn’t it be nice to have a proper cheese counter where you could buy as much or little as you want without increasing our landfills and without paying more because you buy smaller quantities? Just to clarify my short comment above. Enjoy your cheese!Peter (who goes back to work now)
